Factor VII Deficiency
FVII deficiency is an inherited bleeding disorder in which only low levels of factor VII are present in blood.
- To date, treatments have relied on replacement therapy using plasma derived factor VII or prothrombin complex concentrates.
- In patients with FVII deficiency, there is little correlation between residual FVII activity in the blood and severity of bleeding.
- The frequency and severity of bleeding episodes is highly variable between patients with FVII deficiency.
- Common sites of bleeding are joints, the nasal cavity and gums, other mucous membranes, and bleeding during and after surgery.
- Viral transmission is a risk with all plasma-derived products.
- NovoSeven® is a recombinant product and therefore carries no risk of human viral transmission.
